7 June 2022 - Cllr Harry Saville - 2

Two guests – one from round the corner; one from Texas

Demonstrating the range and  reach of Rotary, Llandudno Rotary Club was delighted to host two visitors from completely different parts of the world and walks of life.

On Tuesday, 7th June, after dining at the Maesdu Golf Couse (highly reccommended!) 21 Members and friends sat back to enjoy talks from two very different public-spirited people – the common ground is that they are both driven by a passion for what they do.

Cllr. Harry Seville

Harry has been a Llandudno Councillor since 2016, has just finished his 12 month stint as the youngest Mayor Llandudno has ever had and last month was re-elected for a further 5 years to serve the residents of Gogarth Ward.

Harry gave an entertaining, inspirational and very personal account of his life in politics to date. Two points that stood out – the surprising degree to which personal political events and progress happen by chance rather than by design and secondly (maybe not completely unrelated?) that whilst it’s fine to be honest and admit personal ambition, that should never take over and become a driving force or determinant of personal happiness. Serve people well in what you do now; be happy if other chances to serve arise in the future – a great outlook!

Mrs. Meredith Levine

Meredith is a Member of the Rotary Club of Friendswood, Houston, Texas and is pencilled in to be the President of their 68 Member Club for a year from July 2023. She is currently in the UK on family business and wanted very much to check in with us to talk about her Club’s perspective on the joint venture that is unfolding between our two Clubs.

Friendswood Rotary is anxious to help Ukrainian refugees and feels they can best do that by teaming up with a UK Rotary Club to help fund any initiatives they are undertaking. We are honoured that they chose Llandudno to work with. A joint Zoom working party between Llandudno and Friendswood Rotary Clubs is “on the case” and will be reporting shortly on what intiatives they have identified that can play a meaningful part in helping the plight of those valiant Ukrainian  refugees who arrive within the Conwy County Borough area. Two members of the public have alrady come forward with offers of help and if this is something that interests you, do get in touch – rotaryllandudno@gmail.com
