The new Shapemaster Gym at Ty Hapus Community Centre in Llandudno was officially opened on Tuesday 4th June 2019 by Dr Sara Payne M.B.E
Sara, since having had many aneurysms and a stroke that left her partially paralyzed down her left side has been on a long journey of recovery.
Like so many survivors of a stroke she has undergone major rehabilitation programmes which, although they gave her some improvement in her mobility it was not enough for someone as determined as Sara to live her life as fully has she wanted.
With the help of family and friends she set about putting in place a recovery plan which she hoped would improve her quality of life.
It was at this stage she started to collaborate with Shapemasters to adapt one of their exercise machines for her to aid her mobility.
Since then Sara’s journey started to take a positive step forward through her own determination and the help of the Shapemasters equipment and team.
Sara has gained an amazing level of mobility and weight loss, and the confidence to tackle the world head on again, all of which her doctors said would not be possible.
She is a truly inspirational person!
Today’s opening was a great success with many members attending and using the equipment.
As well as having the opportunity try the equipment, members also got the chance to talk to Sara Payne and Shapemasters about the gym and health and well being in general.
It soon became apparent that although the gym has only been open for 12 weeks its members are seeing dramatic results in their physical and mental wellbeing.
Many said they felt the warmth, and friendly and supportive environment made them feel mentally positive and they felt encouraged to keep going.
One member, Paul who suffers from MS, said when he first started 8 weeks ago he needed support to get on the gym equipment. It’s obviously not the case today, as I saw Paul moving from one machine to another completely unaided. Paul also said he was much more positive and becoming more mobile for longer periods, and this is helping him to see how he can work towards managing his MS in the future.
Another member who has had two hip replacements and suffers with arthritis said she is feeling much healthier and mobile – I can say she looks amazing! Another member has been on a long road recovering from cancer and attends everyday, in her words “I love it! “.
Members there today were of all age groups including two glamorous ladies both in their eighties!
Some members ( but not all ) suffer from ailments such as arthritic conditions, fibromyalgia,MS and mental health, and all report are seeing great improvements both physically and mentally.
The Gym is not just for anyone with a health condition though, it’s also for anyone who wants to improve their overall fitness.
