Llandudno Rotarians Ian and Margaret Trevette have again spent the winter in South Africa and, as Rotarians, continued with their work to support Rotary projects in the Cape Town area. In particular those which have become part of the Llandudno Rotary Club international “partnership” with the Rotary Club of Sea Point. They gave a talk to a recent meeting of the Club, held at the Cae Mor , describing some of the projects that they were involved in.
Nonceba . A Charity supported by several Rotary Clubs that provides counselling and a safe house of living units in Khayelitsha Township, for women/ children who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse in the home
Includid – Housed in a government building formerly a mental institution this charity, supported by Rotary, provides a residential sheltered workshop environment for adults with learning difficulties and /or mental health issues .
Cape Town Space Society – Inspired by the Apollo 11 moon landing and initiated by two American Rotarians who were involved with this momentous event in history, the project aims to encourage youngsters to become involved in the sciences and mathematics and broaden experience and life skills . Via inter-school competition three selected students funded by Rotary Clubs in America and Cape Town, visit NASA and work on a science project which on return is presented to large audiences .
Ilitha – Llandudno Rotary continues to support this Sea Point RC pre-school project in Khayelitsha Town Ship. With this support and continuing Rotarian “hands on “ involvement , the school has flourished and now caters for 70 children .
RPJ “Helping Hands” – A charity founded (and funded) by two people in Cape Town, where volunteers (including Sea Point and visiting Rotarians) prepare and distribute a meal twice a week to around 120 people without homes.
