“Murder!” screamed Betty Blossom at the top of her voice. The audience sat in the dark auditorium transfixed waiting for the drama to unfold…
An eclectic cast of suspects gathered at Theatr Colwyn on Thursday 14th August to help raise money to support the work of the theatre.
Written and directed by TV Conwy’s Lisa Franks, the play centred around the murder an eminent member of theatre staff and the subsequent interrogations to identify the perpetrator of the heinous crime.
Detective Jess Fletcher interrogated the numerous suspects, watched by the questioning gaze of the 145 strong audience who were encouraged to write notes as the action unfurled before them. After the scripted production, the audience were encouraged to ask questions to ascertain who they believed to be the murderer and were then encouraged to complete a questionnaire to win a prize if they guessed correctly.
This was the début of Lisa’s first play. It was also her first step into the world of directing and acting.
The show saw the acting début of many of the cast who felt compelled to be a part of the production to raise much needed funds to support the theatre. It certainly won’t be the last production organised by Friends of Theatr Colwyn who are planning more shows in the future.
Speaking to Lisa after the show, it is clear to see that she and all other cast and crew members thoroughly enjoyed their time treading the boards and are ready to prepare their next fundraising spectacular. Lisa enthusiastically said:
“What an incredible night. 145 people came to see our amateur production, Murder at the Theatre, which raised money for Theatr Colwyn. The theatre manager, Philip Batty Jr. and his staff, were instrumental to our fundraising event. Thank you again for all of your help and support. I don’t intend to let “the time of my life” fade away into just a memory. We ARE going to do more of this and hopefully once a year at Theatr Colwyn.”
